The specially developed balance beam from TrainYourEyes is an effective tool for training (or retraining) your balance. You use it at home or during a programme with your vision therapist.
What it trains
- Proprioception (the muscle and joint sense) – the part of balance that tells you where your body is and how it moves, without you needing to look.
- Tactile sense (the sense of touch) – the part of balance that registers touch and pressure from the surface through the skin.
- Vision – the part of balance that helps you orient yourself in relation to your surroundings (when you also use a Marsden ball).
- The vestibular sense – the part of balance that keeps your vision sharp while you are moving (when you also use a Marsden ball).
Who it is for
For you if you want to improve your balance, and for you if you have problems with dizziness.
How to use it
- Walk forwards and backwards on the beam, heel to toe. It is surprisingly difficult at first, because the material gives way, so you notice straight away if your foot is not placed correctly.
- With a Marsden ball (letter ball) you can look up at the ball while you walk back and forth.
- To make it harder, swing the ball and follow it with your eyes while you walk.
- NB! The exercise is intensive and can cause dizziness. If it does, contact one of our vision therapists.
Good to know
- Special material: 2 metres long, 10 cm wide and 3 cm high.
- Supplied rolled up and can be rolled up when not in use.
